We set up our equipment at the original Greenhouse coffeeshop in Amsterdam to welcome a special American guest: master breeder Shiloh Massive, founder of Massive Creations. Shiloh has been growing cannabis and creating spectacular new strains in Northern California’s Emerald Triangle for over 25 years, but he has also lived and grown weed in Hawaii, Spain, and in Amsterdam. He tells us all about it and we dive deep into the art of breeding. We also discuss cannabis news from Colombia, Luxembourg, Nepal, the US, and the Netherlands. We welcome Bobby, extractor, grower and one of the founders of La Kalada cannabis social club in Barcelona. We talk about his native Italy, moving to Spain and the development of La Kalada into one of the best known and most influential cannabis clubs in Barcelona. Bobby tells us about K Gourmet, the Cosecha Cup and a brand new project: a la Kalada resort on the Thai island Koh Samui, with a dispensary and Italian restaurant. In the news segment we discuss the German and Czech governments legalization plans and the never-ending court case against Dutch coffeeshop De Blowboot. Boy richtte begin jaren negentig uitgeverij Discover Publisher op, met als eerste uitgave HighLife Magazine. Hij pionierde met de Highlife hennepbeurzen en de HighLife Cannabis Cup. Nadat hij Discover verkocht startte hij Royal Queen Seeds, later volgden Zamnesia, Cibdol, Bitcanna en SeedTech. Zoon Shai (29) is het nieuwe gezicht van Royal Queen Seeds en vertelt hoe het is om op te groeien met een cannabisondernemer als vader. We bespreken het belangrijkste cannabisnieuws, o.a. de nieuwe Amsterdamse Stay Away campagne, de sterke daling van het aantal opgerolde wietkwekerijen, de dood van Raphael Mechoulam en Leafly’s afscheid van de journalistiek. In the second of two Barcelona specials we focus on Malta, the first European country to legalize cannabis. We welcome two Maltese in our Barcelona AirBnB studio who know more than anyone about cannabis in the island state: drug-policy researcher Karen Mamo and ReLeaf Malta chairman Andrew Bonello. This NGO plays a pivotal role in the reforms. Just before we recorded this episode, Karen started working for the Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis (ARUC), the Maltese government agency responsible for the legalization. We talk about their motivation, the ins and outs of the Maltese regulation and the cannabis social club study tour organized by ICEERS, that they followed in the days leading up to Spannabis 2023. In de eerste van twee Barcelona specials is Lume Extracts te gast. Deze sympathieke Vlaming woont sinds een aantal jaren in Spanje, waar hij een bestaan heeft opgebouwd als craft kweker en producent van prijswinnende extracten.
Lume vertelt over zijn liefde voor OG Kush en het maken van concentraten en extracten. Hij is kritisch over de cannabis social
clubs in Spanje en legt uit hoe het is om als buitenlander in de Spaanse cannabiswereld te werken.
In het High Tea Potcast Kweekhoekje geeft hij bovendien een paar geweldige kweektips.

Drie jaar werkte Edwin Bax aan een doorstart van de in 2019 gesloten stichting-coffeeshop Xpresso in Zwijndrecht. Zijn droom werd op Bevrijdingsdag 2022 werkelijkheid met de opening van Cannabis Social Club De Ambassade in het oude Xpresso pand. We reisden naar Zwijndrecht om de zeventigste aflevering in De Ambassade op te nemen met Edwin als gast en gastheer. Hij vertelt over zijn ervaringen in coffeeshopland, de verschillen tussen De Ambassade en “gewone” coffeeshops en over zijn levenslange passie voor cannabis. 

In de nieuwsrubriek bespreken we de nieuwe aanloopfase van de wietproef in Breda en Tilburg, de mogelijke deelname van Amsterdam en de plannen van coffeeshopbonden PCN en BCD voor een keurmerk of gedragscode voor shops. Rens legt uit wat The Foundation is, we hebben goed wiet nieuws uit Frankrijk (!) en New York en we duiken in de schandalen rond RAW vloeitjes en JuicyFields. In de Ouwe Doos zit een Nederlandse vertaling van de Freak Brothers en het High Tea Potcast Kweekhoekje gaat over De Gouden Gieter en koffiedras. 

Extra lange aflevering met een van de grote cannabispioniers uit de Nederlandse geschiedenis: Wernard Bruining. Hij opende de eerste coffeeshop van Amsterdam, Mellow Yellow, en de eerste growshop van Europa, Positronics. Hij richtte de cannabiskrant Soft Secrets op, deed mee aan de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen met de Groen Vrij! Internetpartij op en voegde het woord mediwiet toe aan onze taal. Sinds 2009 houdt ‘The Potfather’ zich alleen nog met medicinale cannabis bezig. In het hoofdkwartier van de stichting Mediwiet in Tiel spreekt Wernard uitgebreid en openhartig over zijn uitzonderlijke leven.

We welcome Georg Wurth for a Germany special. Georg is the best-known cannabis activist in Germany and runs the biggest organization for legalization in Europe, the Deutsche Hanfverband. In 2014 he won a million euros in a reality tv show to spend on legalization campaigns. We talk about his work to free the plant and the exciting developments in Germany, where the government of Olaf Scholz has vowed to legalize. What are the plans and what are the main risks? In this Canada special we welcome Hilary Black, founder of the BC Compassion Club, the first medical cannabis dispensary in Canada. Before that she lived in Amsterdam for a while, working at the legendary Positronics, the first growshop in Europe, founded by Potfather Wernard Bruining. She got to know other legends like Old Ed Holloway and Robert C. Clarke, inspiring her to break new ground in Canada. After years of working in the activist community, she switched to the legal industry and accepted a job at Canopy Growth, one of the world’s biggest cannabis companies. She was heavily criticized for this switch, but Hilary is proud of what she was able to achieve at Canopy. This is her first interview since she and her whole team were laid off by Canopy in early 2022. An amazing story, from an amazing lady.
